U.S. Sen. Hassan Checks Out HVAC System at Somersworth, NH School
On the same day that officials from the United States Department of Education released resources for school officials to use so they can improve ventilation systems to slow the spread of COVID-19 in classrooms, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan, D-NH, took a tour of Somersworth Middle School.
Hassan became concerned earlier this year when she learned that school officials were having trouble using federal funding to improve their ventilation systems.
She is relieved that the problem has now been resolved.
“I was happy to work with Somersworth School District and state and federal partners to resolve this issue so they could use this funding, and it was great to see the progress the district has already made in installing of their new air ventilation system,” Hassan said in a statement.
Somersworth School District Superintendent Lori Lane is grateful to Hassan for taking steps to allow New Hampshire’s school districts to use federal funding for new air systems.
“Our new HVAC system will ensure we are better protected from the spread of COVID-19 and it was a pleasure to show Senator Hassan the progress we have already made,” Lane said.
Hassan, along with the rest of the congressional delegation, called out U.S. Department of Education officials in June to work with state officials to ensure schools could ease funding for construction projects.
