Portobello Group to add U.S. tile factory
Baxter, Tenn. Portobello Group, a leading producer of porcelain and ceramic tiles in Brazil, has started construction of its factory in the US, which is located here.
“Growing and developing in the U.S. market, integrating local culture, generating employment and investment as a result of ‘production-to-partnership’ relationships with distributors is what is driving this new challenge,” said Cesar Gomes, Jr., Portobello CEO of the group. “We are proud to soon present Portobello America’s new factory in the US. We believe in the strategy, the market potential and above all the combination of our know-how with the American team and the culture.”
The planned facility is expected to be approximately 895,000 square feet in size and is located about 70 miles east of Nashville. The total investment is expected to be $160 million, of which $80 million will be allocated to the construction of the new facility. The remaining $80 million will be invested in world-class tile manufacturing machinery.
The 92-hectare project is expected to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2022. Portobello estimated that the new state-of-the-art facility will create 220 local jobs.
The company currently operates two distribution centers in the US market, strategically located in Florida and Tennessee (where the future industrial facility will be located as well as Portobello America’s US headquarters). “Building the plant is the next step in our strategy that began in 2018,” said Luiz Felipe Brito, CEO of Portobello America. “We assembled a world-class team, assembled a product portfolio that has proven highly successful, and partnered with the best independent distributors in the country.”
