NSI announces scholarship recipients – Floor Covering News

scholarshipLas Vegas—The Natural Stone Institute has announced the recipients of the 2021 Natural Stone Scholarship and Women in Stone Empowerment Scholarship. The winners will be honored in February at the association’s awards ceremony here at StonExpo/Marmomac at TISE.

Noe Cortez, Customer Solutions Manager for Quality Marble & Granite in Ontario, California, is the recipient of the Natural Stone Scholarship 2021. The Natural Stone Scholarship provides for a trip to TISE.

“I’m really looking forward to attending TISE and getting a better understanding of our industry and all it has to offer,” Cortez said. “I am humbled by the recognition and look forward to having the opportunity.”

scholarshipAndrea (Andi) Carlson Claus, senior account representative at Mont Surfaces in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has been awarded a Women in Stone Empowerment Scholarship 2021. The Women in Stone Empowerment Scholarship offers a trip to one of three major industry events: TISE, Coverings, or a study tour of the Natural Stone Institute. According to the company, the recipient will have the opportunity to shadow industry professionals within various sectors of the stone industry and explore her potential for leadership and her dedication to a career in the stone industry.

“I am so excited about the opportunity to not only attend TISE, but the connections I will make, the mentors I will meet, and the education I will receive through the Women in Stone Empowerment Scholarship,” said Carlson claus. “I hope to leave Las Vegas as a more inspired and complete version of myself with new lifelong friendships.”

scholarshipKristin Cannon, project coordinator for Continental Cut Stone in Florence, Texas, has been awarded a Women in Stone Empowerment Scholarship 2021 and will participate in the Natural Stone Institute’s Bluestone Study Tour in September.

“I love that this fair gives me the opportunity to meet other people in the industry and expand my knowledge of the stone industry as a whole,” Cannon said. “I can’t wait to see what I can learn from this scholarship and I am so grateful that programs like this exist to help women in the industry grow and succeed.”

Industry members are invited to attend the Natural Stone Institute’s annual awards ceremony at TISE on Tuesday, February 1, at 4 p.m. in South Seas F at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
