Businesses, individuals honored for accomplishments at Cheyenne County Chamber banquet

SIDNEY, NE – Despite a tumultuous year, Cheyenne County found plenty to celebrate at the annual chamber banquet on Friday.

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce honored individuals and businesses who have served the area’s communities exceptionally over the past year.

Steve Mattoon was honored as Citizen of the Year. Mattoon recently retired after 36 years on the Sidney School Board. He also completed a term as president of the Nebraska State Bar Association in October.

“I really appreciate this award,” said Mattoon. “It is quite strange that I get a reward for this when I actually worked remotely in my basement all year round.”

Several new companies received awards. Charlotte and Emerson Boutique were named New Business of the Year, while Beans and Steams Coffee House won an outstanding customer service award.

Best Plumbing Heating and Cooling took home the Economic Development Project of the Year following the opening of a new office in 2020.

The Sidney Inn was awarded the Business Revitalization Award after the Sabhaya family moved in, renovated and reopened the hotel.

“We really couldn’t have found a better city to start our motel as this is our first and we hope to expand into many more,” said Sidney Inn manager Hard Sabhaya. “Thank you for bringing us into your community and you have a great year.”

While many companies were recognized for triumphs during the pandemic, the area did not forget those who were at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. Sidney Regional Medical Center staff have been honored as Heroes Among Us.

“This award is an honor to receive, a testament to the work being done and an inspiration to the work we have yet to do,” said Ann McCartney, SRMC’s director of nursing.
